As I Lay Dying
by William Faulkner
Faulkner is a brilliant writer. This work has amazing characterization of people and the language is spot on. I recognize the brilliance of this work. I was impressed and at the same time, I did not like this story at all. OH my lord. I almost gave it up. I only gave this 2 stars due to brilliance of the author.
This is told through many characters eyes and we get their point of view. It is told like many TV shows that are told through many different characters. I have to admit that I had a hard time following what was going on. I couldn't follow this and there wasn't much story. It is mainly a character study of reaction to the death of a family member. I do have to admit that I skipped several chapters to the end.
This was not a book for me. I can appreciate the genius of the work, but I did not enjoy this story. I haven't disliked a story this much in a long time. Wow. I also have a hard time with the southern accent. I grew up around that and it bothers me. So, I'm moving on. I hope other people can enjoy this. I can't really recommend it.
