Are You My Mother? A Comic Drama
by Alison Bechdel
Alison Bechdel writes a fascinating memoir. She so eloquently puts down on the written (and drawn) page her struggles with coming to terms with who she is, and who her parents are: how much of an impact her father made in her life (much of which was written about in [b:Fun Home|38990|Fun Home|Alison Bechdel|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1327652831s/38990.jpg|911368]), and what kind of impact her mother made in her life. She jumps around a bit chronologically, and while a bit confusing, it doesn't take away from the book itself.
I love the way she weaves in the child development works of Donald Winicott and Alice Miller. I think what struck me the most about these was how I related to the very specific things that she talked about. About how we relate to our parents, how our parents relate to us, and how that impacts us in the long term.
Definitely worth reading - highly recommended.
