I called it! What I guessed was gonna happen in my last review happened. Lots of twists and turns in this one and just when it looks like things are going to work out something happens to worsen the situation. With this being the final book there are real stakes and lots of character deaths (not that there weren't with the previous entries, but just more so with this one) All the plotlines are wrapped up and all questions are answered. Some resolutions feel a little rushed or underdeveloped but nothing to take away from my enjoyment, still a 5☆ read for me.
I'm completely fine with Yoshi being the one to make the sacrifice and I felt like it was foreshadowed greatly so when it came time for the finale I knew it would be him, also any interaction between an Arishitora and Yoshi= Gold. The "I called it moment!" I mentioned was the Oni and Endsinger demon army being the main underlying threat that all of humanity, all the previous warring factions have to band together or face extinction. I loved the plot twist of Kin and Daichi Secretly working together, I completely bought Kins "betrayal" in the cliffhanger of the last book. Things I felt were a little rushed was Hiro's redemption/ being forgiven if you wanna call it that, Hana asking the Morchebans for help after they killed Akihito and that all resolves. I get it and it had to happen but feels like it should've been more difficult or developed. Still great all around though. It's weird, I feel like there was no overall plot here and Kristoff just had to improvise where the story would go in some places. With Yoritomo being set up as the main villain then killed in the first book with Hiro stepping in as the new main villain but it feels like he's barely in this. Maybe I'm wrong and it was all meant to be like this. Think of it more as a book of chaos with all the different characters and viewpoints culminating into the Lotus War and less as straightforward good vs evil with a big bad and you'll have a better time with it.
