Serpent's Return: A Superhero Urban Fantasy by Trish Heinrich

5.0

More than anything else, this book is real. Reading this it is completely plausible that people with X-Men like powers were running around after WWII. The characters are strong, flawed, and dynamic. It is a character driven book with lots of action, a little romance, and no happy ending, but all the stronger for that. No deus ex machina etc here.

The MC's greatest strength is her desire never to be vulnerable again and the amazing support of family and friends that helps her grow into a powerful woman.

ps The descriptions of the costumes in the book were wicked! I wish they were better represented on the cover.
