A story that seems to be increasingly relevant with the recent boom in AI, which ponders the intricacies of morality of human behaviors and actions toward genetically living creatures. Dick's worldbuilding is highly indicative of the time of his writing (the space race), yet the consequences of that era are very much relevant today. From the potential colonization of Mars to what feels like the impending arrival of artificial humans, these themes transcend those relating to colonization of a foreign land and ethics of other beings to those broader subjects in general. It's a bleak story that matches its subject matter, immersing the reader fully. With the pair of an articulate writing style and intriguing moral questions, it is hard to put down.
