The Nineties by Chuck Klosterman

☹️

This wasn’t a book on 90s nostalgia (which the cover seems to suggest). I’m not entirely sure what it is, as it only covers a handful “topics” from the 90s (eg grunge music, phones, reality bites) but other than providing a summary of the plot or a timeline of the thing, the author doesn’t do much with it such as digging into its influence. Very disappointed.

As another reviewer wrote, this book is like reading a term paper. It’s very dry and not too entertaining.

Perhaps part of the problem is the author being the main narrator (he’s not terrible but he’s not captivating; though he tries) or perhaps these topics are better presented with visuals; a la the way we see with “films that made us”

Ready player one is better for a trip back to the 90s
