I loved the the first few sentences. Really. Emma Cline wrote really picturesquely about how Evie first met The Girls, how Evie was lured in step by step. After the first few chapters there's this peculiar change in style. She seems to break the tension by mentioning and forewarning, so that the reader is already fully aware of what will happen, and because of that Cline's prose suddenly lacks the liveliness
and vivacity that the first pages were full of.
