Leave the World Behind by Rumaan Alam

5.0

“Life was like that; life was about change.”

I'm sitting here a little speechless to be honest.
I have never read a novel by Rumaan Alam, and I will tell you that he has a very unique writing style that I wasn't fond of in the beginning, but actually grew to love as the story went on.
I don't want to spoil anything.
I almost gave up on this book a couple of chapters in, but as the story began to unfold, I found I couldn't put it down.
The wait for the big reveal of what was happening in the world they left behind, while they were together in a house in the middle of the woods, was what made it so disconcerting. As I was reading, I was immediately overcome with fear that this situation could happen, it was realistic and terrifying.
This book has stuck with me. I can't stop thinking about it.
It's rare that I give five stars anymore, but this is definitely five star worthy to me. You may disagree but I truly enjoyed the rollercoaster Rumaan Alam took me on with this novel.
Brilliant.
