I absolutely loved this book, and now that i finished it, it’s left me with a very nice warm feeling. Margaret Owen does a wonderful job at portraying all of the various behavioural patterns, thought patterns and coping mechanisms that a person that has went through abuse might develop and i found myself relating to Vanja a lot. I especially loved every single moment that challenges her to let go and trust the people around her will protects her. I don’t really understand the reviews calling her annoying or insufferable. I feel like her character and her decisions made nothing but absolute sense to me all throughout the book. I might go as far as to say she’s currently one of my favourite characters written in Ya fantasy.
