In the Night Wood by Dale Bailey

3.0

Some good and bad for this one. Read it in two sessions so clearly I enjoyed it but found myself wanting more from it. The ending was very rushed it felt and tonally felt so different from the rest of the book.

However, I did love the atmosphere and the feel of the forest and it’s importance. Even the sections in the mansion were vivid and so easily imaginable. Characters were instantly familiar and I really did have empathy they were believable and flawed which made the story make sense.
Just felt that maybe the story about their daughter could have wrapped it into the ending more but I really like the way it was handled. Mentioned very often I was curious as to what happened about her but the author reveals little bits and pieces as the book goes on. When we found out what happened to her I was a little horrified. It was just a shame the ending brought this one down.
