Dune by Frank Herbert

5.0

i know everyone has their little fucking dune take and though i dont think dune is perfect, to me, dune is about how the ruling class justify colonialism and do their colonising, not a one to one allegory but as an exploration of power and class. in that regard, dune is quite brilliant.

in a more contemporary context, i also read it as how the ruling class justify and create the climate crisis. which makes frank herbert was quite ahead of his time. those concepts are more explored in the later books, though in my opinion, a lot of those books just arent that good.

plus the plot, setting, and characters are quite excellent. to me they stand the test of time in ways that a lot of scifi and fantasy doesnt.
