I personally cut ties with YA and middle grade books during the lockdown years, but I make exceptions for Tiffany D. Jackson, and I’m glad I do. Blood in the Water is a fun, fish out of water situation that follows a Brooklyn native, Kaylani, as she navigates lifestyles of the rich and the reckless at a summer getaway in Martha’s Vineyard. Kaylani deals with her own struggles, as she has a father in prison, and on her break, tragedy strikes and a mystery is brewing.
This is definitely a cute summer read for middle schoolers.
