The White Book by Han Kang

3.0

A short story that will capture the attention of a specific audience. I am not sure if I was one of them though. I liked the journey this book brings us through mourning, pain, and what the color white means to the author and her life in Korea. The fluidity of the journey brought us full circle and came back to certain themes that put emphasis on the sorrow that her mother experienced. This allowed the audience to make connections between all the items from the list and not just see this list as random white items.

Given that this was translated from Korean to English I wonder if some meaning was lost in conveying a different meaning to readers, but I still enjoyed it.

My favorite short story from this journey is the sugar cube and white bone story. I seemed to make the most connections with those two.
