I don't read many classics, mainly because of the writing style, but that isn't why this book lost a star. I overall found it a pleasant read with Mary and Dickon being interesting characters. Maybe it was because I haven't immersed myself in this world in a long time, but I wished the story didn't change the focus from Mary once Colin was introduced. He was my least favourite character even with his unpleasant childhood and I didn't find him as enjoyable or as interesting as Mary (and Dickon). But the whole time I was reading I thought, "Man, I want to read a YA novel of this where they're grown up and there's an angsty romance between Mary and Dickon!" haha.
