The Beauty, Volume 2 by Jason A. Hurley, Jeremy Haun

3.0

The Beauty, Vol. 2 is a prequel series to the first volume, introducing new characters and a new part of the timeline in The Beauty's spread.

I think this series suffers as a whole from jumping straight into the action (including some gorgeous and very satisfying blood flying), without really explaining the sides and stakes of the various factions in the book. Here, we have what appears to be a drug smuggling/dealing empire, and a few rogue members who decide to take it down for their principles/adopted family/love, and later revenge. I finished the book happy to have gotten to know the new characters (especially our trans lead, who is really interesting), and understanding their new mission, but because I never felt I fully grasped their initial mission in the first place, the stakes and ultimate resolution fell a little flat.

That being said, I'm looking forward to the next volume, which I'm hoping bridges some gaps and fleshes out the story.
