Come As You Are by Jess K. Hardy
5.0

A Gen X romance you say? - I'm there.

I love a contemporary, sexy, fun +40s romance read…. And that's exactly what this is.

If you enjoy a sensitive and slightly insecure tattooed man with a dark past then Madigan is your guy. He's a 53 year old ex drug addict who used to be in a grunge band in the 90s. Having been sober for 22 years he now runs a halfway house for recovering addicts just out of prison.

Ashley is a 46 year old divorcee who is struggling to keep her family's ski runs from going bankrupt after her father's death, and her meddling mother thinks hiring Madigan and his men to work the winter season is a great way to save money.

This is such a great couple - Ashley is a bit cold and afraid to let anyone in because her ex husband really ground down her confidence. And although Madigan is sensitive he hasn't ever really been in a relationship but he's drawn to Ashley, he just doesn't know if he can trust himself.

I loved everything about this book - the support characters were fantastic and added a massive amount to the story, with special mention to Murphy the dog who I badly want a cuddle from.

It's a really really great read about hope and trusting yourself and other people. There is great character growth and you can't help but just absolutely flat out root for this couple.
