The Valley of Fear by Arthur Conan Doyle
4.0
Had I finished this at an earlier hour I'd go devour the next book right away! Unfortunately, it's 4 in the morning and I haven't slept...
The ending is quite the cliffhanger (good thing I bought the next 2 books together with this one). It somehow reminded me of the first book of Holmes as it followed a similar format of storytelling. I liked it the first time though I was confused reading the first few chapters. Encountering the structure once again was somehow less enjoyable since part of the thrill is in not knowing how and why the story is unfolding in such way. Between the first book and this one, I prefer the first. Probably because of the romance aspect of the story. I like the ending of this one better though since I didn't grow such an attachment to the protagonist of the mystery unlike in the first story where the hero had to die due to sickness in the end...
I wasn't able to deduce the truth before it was revealed but that may be due to my sleepiness haha.
