It was a fun story to pass the time. I always like how Darcy little badger incorporates her nation’s stories.
There were definitely times where I got a little spooked. It was lots of fun. There were also some times where it was a bit emotional. And I never saw the twist coming. It was quite a fun addition.
I listened to the audiobook. The voice was strangely flat. I thought I would really like listening to the audio because I had a great time with A Snake Fell to Earth, and it is the same narrator, but the voice acting this time around was not superb. Either way I liked this book.
I’ve seen a lot of people say that it reads more like middle grade, and that the characters are written to sound a lot younger than they are supposed to be. While I do agree that it does read more like middle grade, I don’t think it makes it a bad book, I just think it means it was marketed incorrectly.
Also, I think it is 100% fair to call this young adult. I don’t think that the characters are written younger than they are. There are a couple times when they’re a tad bit young sounding, but for the most part, they act like Teenagers. I think people forget how immature teenagers actually are. The reason I think most people find it sounds too young, is that most young adult writers write their 16-year-old characters to act like they’re 25.
