What is there to say about War and Peace that hasn't already been said by people more eloquent and intelligent than me? I spent a good half year with these characters and their stories. I adore Pierre, I think he's my all time favourite character. There are so many lines and scenes in this book that made me stop and re read and think and reread. Andrei contemplating life and death, staring up at the skies. Pierre reflecting on life beginning whenever you want it to while gazing at the comet of 1812. Going back to reread these parts truly feels like reuniting with old friends. Tolstoy is a master of writing characters that genuinely feel like real people. I used to think people were exaggerating when they said this but it's true, no other author compares.
