San Isidro was supposed to be my victory. My future. My home.
Now all I could do was hope that it wouldn’t be my tomb.

From the moment this book and cover grazed my eyes, I knew that I would really enjoy it. To the point where I was desperate for an ARC, because I needed it immediately. Unfortunately (or so I thought), I was never able to get one, so I preordered it.

However, I read it at the perfect time. The temperature dropped the second I picked this book up, the sky was gloomy and my heart was full. I enjoyed this book so much more than I thought I would.

There was never a moment where I was bored, where I wanted for a chapter or a moment to be done already, where I wanted to put the book down and do anything else.

Cañas writing is so beautiful and captivating, her ability to make me feel every single thing her character's were going through, making my chest swell more and more each time Beatriz and Andrés were together, to gag and close my eyes at the scenes she created.... I need more. I hope we get more.

This story covers so much from colonizations and the effects it has on Indigenous people of the land, Anti-Blackness in Latine community and the lengths people will go through to get and keep power. So much and done so well in my opinion.

Though I have only read one novel that Cañas has written, she is an auto buy author and will read whatever novel she has published in the future.
