Day Zero by C. Robert Cargill

This is not a fun story, and nor (I believe) is it meant to be. But it is utterly absorbing. Poignant and nuanced.

What is the nature of free will? Are we, any of us, who we choose to be? How often are the choices we make actually just manifestations of our programming – whether that's software programming or the combo of nature/nurture?
