I actually have many issues with this novelization and I am so glad Gene Roddenberry did not have full control in the making of the movie because his choices are sometimes questionable.
The plot would have been perfect for an episode of The Original Series but stretching it into a movie/novel makes the story drag in some places.

Minor: Violence, Misogyny, Sexual content, and Xenophobia
Dubious consent in the course of a sexual encounter between two characters.
After Ilia is killed by Vger she is replaced by a probe that has her physical appearance and her whole range of memories and so the probe has identity issues as it starts questioning its existence and whether or not the probe qualifies as Ilia herself or should just be considered a copy so Decker has sex (implied) with the probe to "awaken" its personhood.
