Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Life
by Marshall B. Rosenberg
I read this book in the course of 3 weeks, and my life has changed irreversibly to my astonishment and pleasure since I started reading this book. I started using the ideas in the book immediately since I started reading it, because it was very accessible, and very easy to try out. This book has improved the way I feel about myself, how I interact with people. The most surprising part of this book is that it does not advocate for the use of Non-violent communication (NVC) in the service of meeting some goals, but for its own sake. The book says in essence "Use NVC, you will find something better than what you wanted". The author has immense trust in humanity, which I do not have at the time of writing this review. And yet if he is to be believed, his trust in humanity is not misplaced. I am very tempted to believe in his philosophy, but I haven't seen it in action myself. Applying NVC can be tricky because of old and destructive habits of thinking and feeling about ourselves and others, so I am treading carefully in my use of NVC. I hope I get better at the techniques mentioned in this book and see what the author means for myself.
I think this will be one of those books that I will look back at several years later and think "This book changed the course of my life". Few books can do that, I am grateful to have picked up this book and read it. I recommend this wonderful book to everyone.
