Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake

5.0

I had high hopes going into this book, and I was certainly not disappointed!
In Anna Dressed in Blood, Kendare Blake creates a beautiful world. (Sure, Cas may be a bit reminiscent of the TV show Supernatural and the brothers Winchester, but I love that show so I won't complain.) The use of ghosts and witchcraft was used perfectly--nothing was overdone. Even the horror was great. Some scenes are truly gruesome, but not so much that you don't want to keep reading.

Now, with all of these supernatural elements, some people may be wondering how the looove aspect fits in. Perfectly, I say. It's definitely not the main focus, but the feelings between Cas and Anna are believable and raw. There is even something of romance between two side characters that I loved. Like the horror, the romance was used with a deft hand. (And wow, those two things should really go together, but they do in Anna Dressed in Blood.)

I highly recommend this book for anyone looking to step off the beaten path of supernatural YA. Cas and Anna are both multidimensional characters and I loved their connection. I can't wait to get my hands on the sequel.
