I received a copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
Heard a lot of good things about this book and so was super stoked to get the chance to review this! It was a good read but not a favorite of this year's crop of new YA books/series.
Likes:
The supporting characters were amazing! Fifer was my favorite. You hated her but then loved her and her feisty personality. They really made the story come together as a whole. Their whole relationship is funny and made me laugh quite a bit.
The historical setting was really well done. So much detail and world building is done. I would have wanted more but it was good enough.
NO LOVE triangle or whatever you wanna call it!

Elizabeth is annoying. She is naive and weak-willed and I felt like she didn't grow as a character as much as I would have liked. She didn't think for herself and had to have everyone else tell her what to think/do. Fifer would have been a much better main character than Elizabeth.
The plot is predictable. There really weren't any surprises and it follows the same YA trend as the others. The first part was a little boring and I started to skim just to get to the exciting parts. Not until the second half does it really pick up and even then its not all that amazing.
Overall, it was a good quick read and I might keep it on my radar for the next book in the series but wasn't as blown away as I thought I would have been.
