Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson

5.0

4.5, rounded up because I was not expecting to care about these characters the way I did, and I think that alone deserves it.

If you want to cry over literal (albeit sentient) books and demons—well, one demon—then boy howdy do I have the book for you.

At times, I was slightly frustrated with the way *very* obvious plot points were presented as a mystery. However, they hardly dragged on for more than a chapter, and for that, I'm grateful. Otherwise, lovely, cozy fantasy with fun characters. Reminds me of the vibes of The Starless Sea and what I imagine Pride & Prejudice is like (I know, gasps of horror, but I've never read it or watched the movie. But there's definitely a vibe, you know?)

Anyway. Suffice it to say I would sell my soul (make a pact, perhaps?) for a sequel set years into the future, though I do love the fact this is a standalone. Far too few of those.

EDIT: I was so overtaken by the end I nearly forgot the other, most wonderful thing about this book: bi rep! We have bi rep, and it's so casual and secondhand as to not make a big deal of it—as it should be. Because it's perfectly normal. The only downside is it's not directly on page in a main relationship, but that doesn't make the character any less bi, even in a straight-passing relationship.

Also, fun note: This was my 50th read this year, and as such, it was the last book I needed before I hit my reading goal. On top of that, it's pride month! Happy Pride
