Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

This was such an awesome story, and the pictures definitely helped move it along. I would recommend reading this before watching the movie (which was mostly terrible, though I did like the actors for it).
For once I actually liked the main character. Usually when the protagonist is a male I find it harder to read as I don't get why they say or think some things (specifically if it's in first person). But I really thought Jacob was realistic. He wasn't a stereotypical teenage boy thinking bad things about girls...it was a relief.
I have to say, I would have originally docked a star because of the romance. Honestly I don't like it. I'm not into the "age gap but not really because they look young" romance. Not only that but this girl was once in a fling with his Grandpa... kinda gross. However, it was done well compared to the movie, so I didn't feel so bad about it.
