A Fever of the Blood by Oscar de Muriel
3.0
de Muriel's sophomore novel doesn't quite measure up to the grandeur of his first, Strings of Murder. The story felt like it needed editing, the chases went on overlong for my taste, and the plot was fairly convoluted. I wish the ending was worth it, but to me the payoff wasn't quite there. I get the sense this novel was a setup for future storylines.
It's not a bad read, and certainly this series is clever and highly entertaining, but with six non-linear books in the series, readers could easily skip this one.
