I enjoyed the story enough to request the sequel from the library. Our MC made some terrible decisions, but honestly, the adults around her did as well. Some parts of the story seemed rushed or forgotten (lack of development of the roommate relationship, a “forbidden” tavern that seems full of patrons not allowed to be there, a forest full of people doing dark magic) while others are fleshed out. I suppose it’s about right for the younger reader but there were so many red flags in the story that seemed obvious.
