Maurice by E.M. Forster
5.0
If a book written in 1913 can imagine a happy ending for queer characters there is no reason why modern literature shouldn't follow suit. The story itself is not remarkable but the circumstances are. Forster beautifully constructs language about longing and human nature - and while I enjoyed reading this it did sadden me that many of his sentiments could easily be transposed onto a modern text.
