The first third of the book had me hooked and intrigued and excited, then it just got crazy. To put it in terms of a TV series, I'm taking this book as a filler in the Jamie & Claire story. Other than this book taking Claire back to Jamie, I'm not sure how the overall J&C story was served with their yet-again separation on the ships at sea (very long arc in the book), island adventures, the crazy China man and the return of a, what was believed, long-gone character in this part of the series. But, as always, Diana Gabaldon ends the book with just enough mystery for me to want to move on to #4.
