A solid read, fun but not outstanding. I am rereading the series and going out of order because of library availability, so I read this one after several later books. And it feels like this one has a little less depth to most characters than others; and perhaps because it’s the first, it has to spell some things out. Like it is something drawn in big fat marker strokes instead of a finer pencil drawing. Also I think Harry’s thoughts on women are more realistic later on. I would also say this one is more focused on the investigative/mystery side of things compared to later things that deal more with overarching magic world.
