Heartless
by Marissa Meyer
I finished Heartless this morning and I am still in shock. Now, hear me out.
When I picked up this book I KNEW that it was going to be heart-shattering (I mean, it is a prequel story of the infamous Queen of Hearts). But I also read Marissa Meyer's other books and while they can be a bit sad, they're also cute and fluffy and just all around make you happy. So I expected something similar with Heartless.
And sure, the beginning is all whimsical and lovely - well, most of the book is. But by the last 80 pages I was literally squinting, that's how scared I was of what's going to go wrong (and I did not wanna see it happen).
You know what? I had every right to.
I wanna avoid spoilers, so I'm just gonna say that a *certain* death had me sobbing. SOBBING. I get teary-eyed a lot while reading (I am an emotional person and I get very attached to characters *shrugs*), but full-on sobbing is rare. So yeah, this book was quite a lot to process.
I am kind of drained now and I might burst out crying at total random times, but hey, the things we do for books, right?
I just know that this story will stay with me for a long time and that I will probably love Cath, Jest, Hatta and Mary Ann forever and wish their stories ended differently.
Anyhow, yeah, this is basically what I wanted to say. Sheesh, this review is a mess.
I am just emotional, okay?
