This is a fantastic quick read! I loved how vivid of a description the fungi were given and how completely unsettling the seemingly possessed hares were. Easton is summoned to the Usher mansion by Madeline Usher. Upon arriving to the home, Easton realizes something is VERY wrong with both Madeline and Roderick. Based upon and expanded on Edgar Allen Poe’s The Fall of the House of Usher, this novella gives off Mexican Gothic vibes (which come to find out T. Kingfisher is a huge fan of) with the same sense of eerie, foggy scenery and almost pulsating descriptions of the haunting local mycology. Unsettling and captivating all at once! I’m so excited for the next book and to learn a 3rd is coming this year!
