Make the Season Bright
by Ashley Herring Blake
DNF, which really surprises me to be writing about Ashley Herring Blake. Second chance romance is a tough sell for me. I really want to see how the characters have changed in the interim, and how they've moved on; those are the things that make a story about getting back with your ex compelling and sexy, seeing someone you cared about but they're better and stronger now, they've demonstrated their ability to learn. I didn't see that in the first 150 pages of Make the Season Bright; it really feels like Charlotte and Brighton haven't been able to grow at all in their time apart because their breakup was SO destructive, and dealing with it is still one of the main things they're both doing. To each their own, but it's just not fun or romantic for me.
