The Wrong Bride by Catharina Maura
4.0
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, although there's one aspect preventing me from giving it a full 5-star rating: the characters of Grandma Windsor and Hannah.
Let's delve into Hannah first. Her deception of pretending to be pregnant with Ares' child just to torment Raven and win Ares back was despicable. The fact that she manipulated the situation to make Raven believe Ares had been with her instead was beyond cruel. Despite seemingly having everything she ever wanted, including the attention of Ares, Hannah's shallow nature blinds her to the pain she inflicts on others, particularly her sister. It's frustrating to witness her selfish actions unfold.
And Ares isn't exempt from criticism either. His willingness to cast aside Raven in favor of Hannah simply because she claimed to be carrying his child is disappointing. Raven's mistreatment throughout the story is heartbreaking, and Ares' actions only compound her suffering.
As for Grandma Windsor, her complicity in Hannah's deceit is troubling. She knew the truth about the pregnancy but chose to overlook it, favoring Ares' relationship with Hannah over what was right for Raven.
In the end, both Hannah and Raven receive their just desserts, but the manipulation and betrayal they perpetrate leave a bitter taste in this reader's mouth.
