Please, and I canNOT stress this enough, PLEASE do not read this like a romance. Oliver sucks. Reading it in that context is icky, even if it’s the way the author intended. I read this from the perspective of someone who thinks a lot like Elio minus the weird thing with apricots or peaches or whatever, and it BURNED it was so good. I could write an essay about it. Knowing me, I probably will someday. But for real, and I’m emphasizing this with my whole being, don’t base your romantic relationships on Elio and Oliver even if there are some moments or pieces of dialogue between them that are utterly beautiful.
