Gold by Chris Cleave
5.0

“Oh, you know. The lingering sensation that in pursuit of my own exacting goals and objectives I might not have been as generous in spirit as I could have been with regard to the needs and dreams of the people I cared most about or for whom I was emotionally responsible.”

I just simply have not stopped thinking about this book... It follows the pursuit of Olympic gold by three cyclists as they all cope with complicated friendships/rivalries, the sickness of a child, and the fragility of their careers. I felt like every relationship (friendship, marriage, parent and child, coach and athlete) was not only addressed, but examined in a compelling way that added to the story and never felt overdone. I finished this book feeling like I knew the characters, understood their perspectives even if I disagreed with them, and developed an appreciation for the power of sport in the lives of athletes.

This is the first book in a long time that has kept me from going to sleep because I HAD to know what was going to happen. I could go on and on but I'm scared that y'all will read it and not like it, so I'm scared to boost it tooooo much ahahaha
