Frozen 2: Forest of Shadows
by Kamilla Benko
doesn't have anything to do with the canonical films, the book seems to follow the style of LOTR, only with much more plot holes, irrelevant theme, and the utterly boring going-back-and-forth plot. The characters act in a very detached way in comparison with their depiction in the movies, Anna is portrayed as a childish, narcissistic person that cares about nothing but how much attention she receives from her sister, despite witnessing horrifying events falling upon her kingdom, which is very uncharacteristic of movie's Anna. It turns the sisters relationship into a very toxic one, with Anna developing a sense of insecurity and the feeling of being the "other sister" is having a toll on her mental health, and Elsa playing (maybe inadvertently) a hard-to-get game. The book introduces many superficial, plot-progressing characters that I couldn't care less about instead of developing the ones that we know and love. The premise is quite irrelevant to the movies', focusing primarily on the the mythical world-building of the frozen universe with the depth of the characters being a secondary concern. And once again the book makes the common mistake of having an Anna-centric narration and ignoring the thoughts of other characters, which really makes it feel incomplete. With that being said, I think it's a pretty fun read if one dismissed the fact that it belongs to the frozen franchise and was satisfied for slightly inferior quality.
