The Romance Recipe by Ruby Barrett

Overall I really enjoyed this! This is a new author for me, and one new narrator (that of Sophie’s chapters). Sophie was very likable and my favorite of the duo—Amy, while in understandable ways with her relationship and issues with her dad, was frustrating at times. I nearly docked a star for that, but it’s also made very clear by the narrative (and Sophie gets to call her out frequently for it) that Amy is WRONG for being an asshole and making decisions for Sophie and letting her fear hold her back from being together, so that would feel unnecessarily mean, to me.

Despite my frustrations with Amy (especially near the very end) I did like her, and I liked the two of them together. The chemistry was there from the start and their interactions were great. I have also worked in a lot of restaurants, so the whole vibe and setting was familiar and brought back memories (not all of them great lol) but this is a restaurant I would actually probably enjoy working at, which says something.

The cover is so cute too, I’m loving the more artful covers on sapphic stories I’ve been running into lately as I pretty much detest most of the ‘stock photos of women’ ones that are so prevalent. Both narrators were solid, if not slightly lacking in character voices distinctions (for me). I’d def rec this!
