Hero
by Samantha Young
Yes, Caine treated Lexie like shit for a large portion of this book. I see these other reviews focusing on this. If it's not for you, it's not for you. I honestly enjoyed this story. Having lived in Boston for years in my 20's, and the surrounding area for years after that, I really appreciated all the research Samantha Young did for this single novel. It was definitely noticeable and I hate reading books that take place in places I know well that are completely inaccurate and wrong. It turns me off and then I can't enjoy the story at all. Moving on from that, this story was an interesting mixture of romance tropes. It starts with enemies to lovers and then moves into secret dating but calling it just an affair or just sex, then moves to friends with benefits. And of course then something from Caine's past creeps in and he abruptly ends it and closes himself off from both Lexie and his neighbor that he treats like a grandmother. And when Lexie is stabbed, he won't let her leave his apartment during her recovery so it's a bit of forced proximity. Caine finally gets his head out of his ass when Lexie finally leaves him (and her security detail) and he realizes that he may have truly lost her. There was a lot of action in this one and I loved it. And of course, there are a lot of explicit sex scenes including sex in the office.
