Gemina
by Jay Kristoff, Amie Kaufman
Excuse me while I do my happy dance for completing book one on my tome topple TBR pile!

I think I would do the world a disservice if I didn't first inform anyone reading this that this book and its predecessor can lead the reader to have all the trust issues in the world. At first, I thought to myself "Oh, this could be read as a standalone." Then I got a couple hundred pages in and laughed at myself for being an idiot and thinking I know things. This book will legitimately hurt your feelings if you are like me and like to think you can figure out what happens next. I swear I can hear Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff just cackling as they write these and ruin the lives of the readers. It is possible that GRR Martin held a writing seminar on how to ruin the lives of your reader and these two attended and sat in the front row.
This book is filled with dynamic characters, some familiar and most new. I was a bit worried about picking this book up because I was unsure if it would be similar to Illuminae in story line. I just couldn't fathom what else they could possibly do. It's okay to laugh at my ignorance. My assumptions were false and I was actually very impressed by their ability to pull me into this plot with a seemingly new cast of characters to pointlessly attach myself to. This series is most definitely worth the read and come March I will be waiting to purchase Obsidio.
