Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor

3.0

"Daughter of Smoke and Bone" is a very promising YA fantasy that mixes genres with high-quality storytelling and weaves a compelling tale of star-crossed lovers.

However, the story falls short of delivering the kind of the first installment the reader would ideally want simply because it moves back and forth between different voices and timelines. Not only that but often there's a misuse of POV and the second half of the book simply lost its momentum due to the writer's need to establish the heroine's background.

Truthfully, this first book of the trilogy should be considered a prequel. I'd love to read the next books in the series because of Laini Taylor's exquisite writing style but I'm not quite sure where the story is going.

If you're into YA urban fantasy with an epic tale twist, then this book is definitely for you. My Audible copy was definitely worthy of my time and money.
