A fascinating insight into the life of the underclass of Paris and London in the early twentieth century. The prose is stark, but witty, and one can't help but be drawn in by the narrator's - Orwell's - deep sensitivity, understanding, and attribution of basic dignity to the tramps, plongeurs, and workers of the world.
