For book club we chose memoirs. Whenever we choose a topic for book club I spend a lot of time searching for books that I have never heard of before. This is the third memoir that I found that I just couldn't wait to read. I lucked out and picked this book during a Audible 2 for 1 sale. I believe that listening to this book gave it another wonderful dimension.

I appreciated this book because it gave an overview of Chester Nez's life, childhood to long after WWII and Korea. The insights into his childhood and the Navajo culture were especially interesting to me. I have gained a great respect for the Navajo young men that went off to fight in WWII. They were invaluable to defeating the Japanese. They were on campaign after campaign because their unbreakable code, that they had created, was such an asset.

I would recommend this book and in my opinion the best way to read it is by audiobook. It felt like he was right there telling me his story.
