Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis by J.D. Vance

Having grown up in rust belt poverty, this one's special to me. And no review is going to accurately reflect the hundreds of thoughts I had while reading (listening to) it. If you want to understand the white lower class, this book does a great job--but it's just one perspective. I know many people who could have been a J.D. Vance. While I disagree with some of his thoughts, I understand everything he says, where it comes from, and why he believes it.
