The author set out to discover the physicality of the internet: the switches, fiber, data centers, and so forth that make up the "cloud". An admirable goal, but it was poorly executed. My summary of the book: "There are lots of things that make up the internet. Wait, I'm not even sure what the internet is. There are a lot of things that make up the Internet."
