CHRISTMAS MURDER IN HYANNIS: Utterly Addictive Cozy Mystery by ANDREA KRESS
3.0
This author would really benefit from a developmental editor. She’s pretty good at getting the cozy feeling in these mysteries and her research and setting are well done, but the pacing of these books is just off. She spends so much time on non-essentials and recapping and then smacks us with a conclusion out of nowhere.
I’d love to have seen more detecting, more of Brendan and more of Boston post-prohibition, and less of everything else. The mystery is incredibly underdeveloped and so much time is wasted meandering around and chitchatting.
I think I’m going to have to bow out of this series now, it has no momentum and seems to have changed course with this book for no purpose. Why are they even in Hyannis? All that interesting Boston City intrigue, the mayoral corruption and the detective partnership with Brendan and Dominic was completely abandoned. Amanda has a new job as a private investigator, but doesn’t even go into work.
What a shame. I’m out.
