I loved it. Every single story, every life and every memory, the melancholy feeling you get when you realize that the Paulstadt these characters are refering to is either partly or wholly gone, the exciting feeling you get when each individual story brings you closer to understanding or seeing the community of Paulstadt as a whole, even if it's a Paulstadt of yesterday. These are simple stories about life, regrets, happy moments, awful moments, feelings that linger, loneliness, happiness. There's nothing new and remarkable here, and yet it feels unique and utterly believable. There's just something about Seethaler's writing that really hits a nerve. I've yet to read a novel by him I haven't loved.
