The Hundred and Ninety-Nine Steps

I've read this before and enjoyed it, but this time I enjoyed it even more. I just enjoy the way Faber writes, the way he crafts a sentence, and also the empathy with which he writes. This is a subtle story, but it has layers to it, a sense of mystery, and it feels like a very satisfying short story/novella to me.
